See the Milky Way Again During Dark Sky Week

International Dark Sky Week

April 19, 2018 – International Dark Sky Week is this week – April 15 – 21, 2018. What is Dark Sky?

Well, it’s fairly simple. We have so many lights now throughout our cities and many rural areas that we can no longer see the sky as it really is. An organization called International Dark Sky Association (IDA) is working to change that.  IDA’s mission is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through environmentally responsible lighting.

International Dark Sky Week draws attention to the problems associated with light pollution and promotes simple solutions available to mitigate it. The need for environmentally responsible outdoor lighting that balances the human need for light with the need for dark skies drives every aspect of IDA’s work.

The IDA’s work is very interesting. Visit their website at the blue link above to really get an understanding of this mission.

This video will shed some light on the organization.
