Just FYI. We diligently seek to stop spam. We don’t just delete it when it arrives in our email.
There are ways to research and learn where the spam originated from. That’s what we do.
We find out what ip address the email originated from, if it was forwarded to another address before being sent to us (which is frequently the case), the email server that was used and the domain name used. We then block each of those ip addresses (sometimes there are several in the chain) from being able to visit our sites.
We then research where the IP is located, how many ip addresses are owned by the same person, and the last known address that was registered with the IP. We then go to the Who Is database to learn who registered and who owns the domain name, the address used to register the domain, and if contact information is recorded.
We then file a complaint with the IP abuse email address and we file a grievance with ICANN where possible. ICANN is the organization that maintains, regulates and monitors the internet. Then, in cases that are solid, we file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission because the spam is done over the internet. Then we file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission because usually the spam is selling a product so therefore they are involved in interstate commerce.
We also file complaints and grievances with regulators in foreign countries.
