Phenix City, AL, Aug. 17, 2018 – The City of Phenix City held a ribbon cutting today to open their newest park to the public.
Located at the 14th Street Bridge and alongside the River Walk, the park is known as ArtPark. It is also adjacent to the Courtyard by Marriott.
The city plans to erect sculptures and art follies in the park next to the River Walk.
Within ArtPark will also be the city’s new Food Truck Park which will be alongside Whitewater Ave. The ArtPark will feature several food trucks each week on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A huge crowd attended today’s ribbon cutting and enjoyed live music along with good eats from the six food trucks on hand. People from both Phenix City and Columbus were mingling through the crowd.
I spoke with Shaun Culligan, Phenix City Economic Development Manager, about the park. “The park is just a nice Green Space and it will be a fusion of two parks. SPARK Art Group, a local art organization will place art sculptures in the park along the River Walk and then we’ll have the food trucks here each week.”
All six food trucks had long lines as people weathered the hot sun for the food truck fare. But they didn’t have to eat in the sun. There were several tables with umbrellas and also a huge canopy tent that patrons could sit down, eat and enjoy the live music.
The ArtPark has a huge lawn and green area and there are plans for several events on the lawn including concerts and other events.
There are numerous ways to stay abreast of future events at the park. Check Phenix City’s website, on Twitter at PositivelyPC, Stomping Grounds food truck website, or at the Chattahoochee River Whitewater website.
On Point Columbus also plans to keep up with all the activities in the new SPARK ArtPark in Phenic City. Just check our Events Calendar.
